Profibus (Process Field Bus)

ProfiBus (PROcess Field Bus) was developed in 1987 by Siemens and other companies and research institutes in Germany, and is widely used in industrial control, transportation, and power automation. It consists of PROFIBUS FMS (Fieldbus Message Specification), PROFIBUS DP (Decentralized Peripherals), and PROFIBUS PA (Process Automation). PROFIBUS DP and PROFIBUS PA are the most commonly used today.

Wrong Baud Rate, Start bit, or bit order causes decode failure; prefer Auto Detect first. For channel-prefix differences, see Settings.

Decode Settings

Decode Settings

Profibus Decode Settings
  • Channel: Set the ProfiBus signal channel.
  • Baud Rate/Auto Detect: Set baud rate manually or enable Auto Detect. Field enabled (Enable) for Auto Detect when checked. Default is Auto Detect checked; baud text is commonly 9600.
  • Start bit: High/Low. Default is Low.
  • MSB first: Use MSB after the Start bit; unchecked uses LSB. Field enabled (Enable) when checked. Default is unchecked.
  • Show scale in the waveform: Show bit scale by baud rate in the waveform. Field enabled (Enable) when checked. Default is unchecked.
