PSI5 (Peripheral Sensor Interface 5)

PSI5 (Peripheral Sensor Interface 5) is an open automotive sensor interface used to connect peripheral sensors to electronic control units. It is widely applied in safety-related and sensor-intensive vehicle systems, and is designed for robust, cost-efficient digital communication over a small number of wires.

In the Logic Analyzer, the PSI5 decode plugin reconstructs the sensor frame structure from the captured waveform so you can inspect timing, payload fields, and check results without decoding the bus manually.

Wrong Bit Rate, Polarity, Manchester, or Version yields incorrect frames. For channel-prefix differences, see Settings.

PSI5 Decode Settings
  • Channel: Logic Analyzer channel for the PSI5 data signal (UI label may show Configuration Channel).
  • Color: Display colors for Start, Data, and CRC/Parity on the waveform.
  • Startup:
    • Bit Rate: 125 kbps / 189 kbps / Custom. Default: 125 kbps.
    • Custom (ns): Bit period in nanoseconds when Bit Rate is Custom. Field enabled (Enable) when Bit Rate is Custom. Default text when resetting: 8000.
    • # of Data Bits: Data bits per sensor frame. Default: 10.
    • Error Check: Even Parity / Odd Parity / CRC-3 / None. Default: Even Parity.
    • Tolerance: Allowed timing tolerance for bit detection. Default: 20%.
    • Polarity: Idle Low / Idle High. Default: Idle Low.
    • Manchester: Normal / Inverted. Default: Normal.
    • Version: PSI5 version (V1.3 / V2.0 / V2.1 / V2.2 / V2.3). Default: V2.3.
  • Payload Regions:
    • Split payload into regions: Split the payload into Messaging, Frame Ctrl, Status, Region A, and Region B. Field enabled (Enable) when checked; region width controls are enabled with this option. Default: checked.
    • Messaging / Frame Ctrl / Status / Region B: Optional region widths when split is enabled. Default widths: Messaging 0, Frame Ctrl 0, Status 0, Region B 0 (Region A spans the remaining data bits).
